All of our moving and storage boxes are made using corrugated cardboard. Corrugated cardboard is made by fixing layers of paper together with at least one of the papers made into a corrugation wave shape. The wave shaped paper is known as the Flute and makes up the centre.
We use two different types of corrugated cardboard:-
Single wall cardboard is made up of just three layers of paper, one of which becomes the Flute. The outer layers are known as Liners. We use this type of cardboard to make up our Finders, Multipurpose and Book/Heavy Items boxes.
Double wall cardboard is made up of two Flutes sandwiched between three Liners. This adds strength to the box and provides more protection for its contents. We use this type of cardboard to make up our Large and Wardrobe boxes.
Grade/GSM of paper used – the weight of paper is measured by the amount that a square meter weighs, this is given in grams per square meter (GSM). Paper is graded as A, B and C with A being the best quality.
Size/Pitch of Flute used – the flute pitch is the distance between two tops of the adjacent flute and the height is the distance between its top and bottom. Flutes can come in a variety of sizes/pitch.
All of our reels of paper are recycled and recyclable. This keeps in line with our Environmental policy. We fix our boxes together using a wheat based adhesive which means our finished sheet of cardboard is fully recyclable.
